Kodungallur (Cranganore)
Ancient port before nature destroyed it and formed Kochi harbour. Old town Pattanam/ Muziris, located 8 km south of Kodungalloor, is said to have been first occupied around 1,000 BC and continued to be active till the 10th century AD. St. Thomas the Apostle landed here. Kodungallur also has the first mosque in India, "Cheraman Masjid". The Kodungallur Bhagwati Temple, Thiruvanchikulam Mahadeva Temple and Mar Thoma Syro-Malabar Catholic Church are famous pilgrim centres.

Alleppey
Alappuzha, also known as Alleppey is a town with picturesque canals, backwaters and lagoons, it was described as the "Venice of the East" by Lord Curzon. Snake boat races are the most significant traditional event in Alappuzha usually held between August and October, and involve long thin boats powered by up to 120 oarsmen. The most famous snake boat race is the Nehru Trophy Boat Race which will be conducted on the second saturday of the August every year.

Bhoothathankettu
Bhoothathankettu, the old natural dam built by monsters (super humans) by large blocks of unshaped stones placed on both sides of the Periyar River. The new irrigation dam have a scenic dam site with boating facilities is situated in a vast virgin forest. It is a popular picnic sport with Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary near by.

Kottayam
An important commercial area, it is the gateway to the famed rubber and tea plantations of Kerala. It is the home of Malayalam Journalism. Kumarakom and Wagamon are popular tourist destination and Illickal Kallu is the best trekking destination in Kottayam. Kottayam is connected with Kochi by road and rail.

Thrissur
Thrissur is called the cultural capital of Kerala and the second commercial town in Kerala. The Museums, Zoo and the Vaddakkuntham Temple are all worth visiting. Thrissur is best known for its mammoth Pooram Festival, the most colourful and spectacular temple festival of Kerala. The Peechi Dam, 26 km from Thrissur, is a good picnic spot and is ideal for a holiday.

Munnar
A hill resort famous for its lush green tea and cardamom plantations. An ideal holiday spot, has a cool and stimulating climate. The rare species of Nilgiri Tahr can be seen in the Ernakulam game Sanctuary not far from here. Anaimudi, the highest peak in South India, is in these hills. The Munnar - Kodaikkanal Road is the steepest road in South East Asia.
